Taught by Jennifer Ortiz
Jennifer Ortiz is an Assistant Professor of Criminology at Indiana University Southeast. She earned her doctorate in Criminology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on structural violence within the criminal justice system. Since joining the IUS faculty in 2015, Dr. Ortiz has worked to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion by developing diversity training for new faculty and resident advisors, hosting community forums on social justice issues, and engaging in community activism. Dr. Ortiz currently serves as the President of the New Albany Human Rights Commission where she works to combat inequality and discrimination. In recognition of her work in the community, the Southern Indiana Business Magazine named Dr. Ortiz a 2019 Top 20 under 40 Business Professional and she received the 2019 Indiana University Chancellor’s Diversity Award.
